I thought Celia's name was funny.

But as I started my comment, I noticed the mention of comic book writers in the previous comment, so I went back to your post.
I saw the cover of PRIDE OF BAGHDAD at my local comic book haunt, but didn't really check it out. Had no idea what it was about or that the protagonists were animals. Based on your review, I'll have to check it out now.
I also agree with your point about how regular TPBs don't actually seem like novels. Well, it's tough with the continuing titles. Each of those TPBs, while containing a whole story arc, still feel ripped out of something larger.
Having said that, I run away now.
Books are a little out of my element. My wife's the reading freak.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18086590.post-1160127899825983162006-10-06T05:44:00.000-04:002006-10-06T05:44:00.000-04:00hmm, I'll give it a go, used to be a fan of Brian ...hmm, I'll give it a go, used to be a fan of Brian Vaughan's, and I still read Y. But, the man only seems capable of writnig one story, and that's why I'm glad Swamp Thing finished, and stopped reading Ex Maxhina.
a-political would be new for Vaughn.

I don't know, he does some great stuff, but also writes trite, so I am always in 2 minds about him.

Personally, I prefer Mike Carey or Bill Willingham's Fables. Grant Morrison has kind of lost the plot a little, although I would seriously recommed We3. Terrific art, and very powerful story.
Warren Ellis recently wrote Desolation Jones, which was one of his better recent stories, but he's still no Alan Moore.David de Beerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03191810429175260146noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18086590.post-1159826412289149652006-10-02T18:00:00.000-04:002006-10-02T18:00:00.000-04:00I've got to get my hands on Pride of Baghdad some ...I've got to get my hands on Pride of Baghdad some time soon.
